Quansah says leaving Liverpool improved his World Cup prospects
Jarell Quansah knows his journey to the World Cup was only possible because he made the really tough decision to leave boyhood club Liverpool.
The versatile defender, who is part of Englands 26-man squad that moves to their tournament base in Kansas City on Saturday, left the Reds last summer to join German side Bayer Leverkusen.
Quansah has flourished in the Bundesliga and has been rewarded with a place in Thomas Tuchels squad.
The 23-year-old, who joined Liverpool as a five-year-old, was not getting enough gametime at Anfield and knew he had to leave to further his career.
Last summer it was a really tough decision, to be honest, to walk away from my boyhood club a club Ive been at all my life, he said.
But I just knew it was the best thing that I needed for my career, to be playing week in week out.
People who know me know I back myself no matter what and I feel like Im capable of playing at the highest level and I wanted to show that this season.
To be rewarded being selected for the World Cup is an absolute honour and its all down to the hard work that Ive put in over the past 12 months.
I feel like with every game I play, Im getting better. Im only young, so as long as I keep my head down, I keep grafting away, I know Im going to be in a good place.
Its just sticking to what I know and sticking to the goals that Ive set myself and hopefully I can achieve everything I want.

Rangers and RB Salzburg remain in talks for Rohl as McInnes on shortlist of replacements
Latest from Your Site News' Sahil Jaidka:
Rangers and RB Salzburg remain in talks to finalise a deal for Danny Rohl to join the Austrian Bundesliga club.
As reported on Thursday, Rohls exit will only be given the green light by Ibrox chiefs if compensation terms can be met.
It was also revealed by Your Site News that Rangers had been continuing to review their options since May, when Rohl was backed despite the club finishing third last season.
Your Site News understands Hearts boss Derek McInnes will be among those on the shortlist should Rangers sanction Rohls exit.
McInnes led Hearts to second place in his first season at Tynecastle, as they missed out on the league title on the final day of the season.
Former boss Steven Gerrard and ex-Ibrox defender Kevin Muscat both impressed Gers bosses last October but stepped away from talks prior to Rohls appointment.
Gerrard won the title during his spell as Rangers boss before leaving for Aston Villa in 2021.
Muscat is the boss at Shanghai Port, where he has won the league over the last two seasons, having already enjoyed success in Japan and Australia before.
The Rangers players return for pre-season testing next week.
